Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Wassim Youssef, the preacher of the Sheikh Sultan bin Zayed the First Mosque in the Emirates, commented on the two incidents of burning and tearing two copies of the Qur’an in Sweden and the Netherlands, amid the uproar that aroused in the Islamic world and official condemnations.

Wassim Youssef said in a tweet on his Twitter page: “Yesterday an extremist from Sweden and today an extremist from the Netherlands, one of whom is burning and the other is being torn apart! And we as Muslims adhere to the constants of our true religion. We obey our religion, our morals, and the law of our countries. Are they really extremists? You know the difference?

And he continued, saying: “If you burn all the Qur’ans of the Muslims, and scatter the ashes of your burning on the slopes of the mountains, and it melts with the waters of the seas and rivers, then the Book of God is in the breasts of our children before our elders, and God preserves His religion and His Book, so whatever you do is in vain. We have sent down the Remembrance, and we will keep it.”

Wassim Youssef commented on a tweet for the official account of the Swedish government in Arabic on Twitter, in which he said: “Associating what one individual is doing and circulating it to the government of a country is completely unfair. The Swedish government does not support in any way the anti-Islam views that some may use during Demonstrations,” he responded with a tweet in which he said: “But it becomes a government position if those who burned the Holy Qur’an are not punished! Protesting freedom of expression is a flimsy, weak, disgusting argument. Offending any religion and provoking the feelings of its followers, and the government’s silence on that is consent! May God’s curse be upon freedom.” Expression that leads to sectarianism and extremism!
