Political analyst, Abdul Salam Al-Rajhi, in press statements about the new US sanctions against Wagner’s Russian mercenaries: The US sanctions have nothing to do with Wagner’s presence in Libya, but rather aim to pressure and curtail its activity in Ukraine due to the company’s field successes.

The US sanctions came after the remarkable role of these forces in Ukraine, especially the recent advances on the ground that they made on a number of fronts.

– #Washington feels that it is affected by this progress because it supports the Ukrainian army with military equipment, but the latter loses the areas it controlled in favor of Wagner.

– There are old US sanctions against Wagner officials, and these sanctions were divided; Some of them were targeting mercenary activities in Central Africa, and some of them were active in Sudan and Syria, in Mali, and finally in Ukraine.

--

– The company is not only mercenaries to fight, but rather it is multi-activity, in Central Africa they control diamond mines, in Sudan they are active in extracting gold, in Syria they control oil wells, in Mali they got contracts to develop the Malian army, and in Libya they fought alongside Khalifa forces #Haftar for money, and they are currently active in the illegal immigration trade, because they control the corridors through which migrants enter. They are engaged in many suspicious activities.”

-

– The US sanctions will not have an impact on Wagner because Wagner relies on black trade, and does not follow official international channels in its financial dealings related to supporting its activities, and the company was established to manage suspicious activities away from international monitoring and prosecution.

The United States intends to impose additional sanctions next week on the Russian private military “Wagner” mercenary group, which is accused of participating in the invasion of Ukraine.
