The Confederation of African Football (CAF) intends to launch its new project, the African Super League, starting next August, with the participation of the most prominent teams in the continent, led by Al-Ahly of Egypt.

CAF officials intend to hold the first edition of the African Super League with the participation of 8 to 12 teams, provided that it brings together the best clubs in the continent, and witnesses the distribution of huge financial prizes totaling about $ 100 million, according to reports.

This competition is based on dividing the continent of Africa into 3 geographical regions, which are the north, the east and the center, and the west and the south, provided that each of these regions is represented in the nascent championship.

Al-Ahly will certainly advance the list of teams participating in the African Super League, as it is the first club in the brown continent, and the most crowned CAF Champions League title with 10 times, as the Red Club was looking forward to participating in the nascent tournament, whose champion will receive 11 million dollars, in addition to its usual participation in the League. champions.

However, Amer Hussein, a member of the Egyptian Football Association, made a statement on the Egyptian Ontime Sports channel, which may cause a shock to Al-Ahly’s ambitions, as he confirmed that any club is allowed to participate in two foreign tournaments at the same time,

A member of the Football Association explained: “If Al-Ahly participated in the African Super League, he would not play in the African Champions League.”

And qualifies for the African Champions League from Egypt, the champion of the league competition and its runner-up, while the third-place holder and the Egyptian Cup champion play in the Confederation Cup.

The current edition of the African Champions League is participating in the Zamalek team, the league champion in the last two seasons, and its runner-up, Al-Ahly, as the two teams qualified for the group stage.
