The Turkish Meteorological Authority said, on Thursday, that high pressure in Europe led to heavy rains until the end of January in the country and snow in the first week of February in Istanbul.

She added that successive and continuous rains will fall between January 27 and February 10, and snow is expected on February 4 in Istanbul.

And she added that rain is expected to fall on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays in Istanbul and the Aegean region, and very heavy rains will fall between Canakkale, Dikili, Izmir and Manisa.

She indicated that snow is expected in the eastern Anatolia region, the Kayseri highlands, Kahramanmaraş, Sivas, Adiyaman, Tunceli, Bingol, Malatya, Elazig, and Diyarbakir.

And on Wednesday, Deniz Demirhan, a faculty member in the Department of Meteorological Engineering, warned of heavy rains next Saturday afternoon in Istanbul.
Demirhan said that heavy rains may cause floods and torrents, and this coincides with a drop in temperatures to a level of 4-5 degrees.
He added that he expects the amount of rainfall to reach 25-30 kg per square meter.
Demirhan added that the rainfall will be in western and northern Thrace, starting on Friday, and that there will not be a significant drop in air temperatures in Istanbul, but the precipitation will be in the form of rain.
And he indicated that, starting from Saturday, snow is expected in the eastern parts of central Anatolia, the eastern Anatolia region, and partially in the interior parts of the Mediterranean Sea, and that there is a possibility of rain and frost in the western and northern parts of Thrace.
And he added about the weather in Istanbul, “There is a decrease in temperatures on Thursday, and heavy rain in Istanbul, starting from Friday evening and intensifying at night, and may cause floods and torrential rains, and the rain will continue until Saturday afternoon, temperatures can drop to -4 5 degrees, then we expect the temperature to rise to around 10 degrees again.”
Demirhan said that temperatures in Ankara will decrease from Friday, precipitation will be seen as more rain, precipitation and lower temperatures will continue into Monday.
He explained that snowfall can be seen in Istanbul, north of the Sea of ​​Marmara, and throughout the Black Sea at the end of January and early February.
