A video clip and shipping sources indicated that a missile hit a Turkish-owned cargo ship in the port city of Kherson in southern Ukraine on Tuesday, which led to a fire.

Maritime security firm Ambry said the missile hit the Tuzla’s wheelhouse, causing the fire. Video footage showed flames filling the ship’s wheelhouse.

Reuters was able to confirm the location based on the ships and buildings shown in the footage, which matched satellite imagery of the area.

Reuters could not independently confirm when the footage was filmed. The ship, which has been stuck in port since February 2022, is operated by Gaili Shipping, which could not be reached for comment.

A shipping source said that there are 12 Turkish ships parked in Ukrainian ports, including Kherson, and that these ships are not covered by the agreement to export grain across the Black Sea, which was mediated by the United Nations.

The source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, said, “An attack took place yesterday evening, most likely on the port, and that an explosive device apparently hit the ship.

The Turkish ships in Kherson are manned by minimal crew members, so there were no injuries or loss of life.”
