Today, Wednesday, Lebanese Court of Cassation Judge Ghassan Oweidat announced the release of all those arrested in the Beirut port explosion case.

Lebanese media quoted the Public Prosecution Office as saying: “The judicial police are still in the hands of Judge Ghassan Oweidat. Judge Al-Bitar’s decision yesterday was not implemented, while Oweidat’s decision today to release the detainees will be implemented by the security services.”

The Public Prosecutor of Cassation also claimed against the judicial investigator in the Beirut Port explosion case, Judge Tariq Al-Bitar, and issued a decision banning him from traveling.

For his part, Tariq Al-Bitar, the judicial investigator of the Beirut port explosion, explained, “There is no legal value to the discriminatory decision of the Public Prosecutor to release those arrested in the port explosion case.”

He added, “The response of the security forces to Oweidat’s decision to release the detainees will be tantamount to a coup against the law.”

Judge Tariq Al-Bitar continued, stressing: “Only the judicial investigator has the right to issue release decisions, and therefore Ghassan Oweidat’s decision has no legal value.”

Yesterday, Tuesday, the investigating judge in the Beirut Port case, Tariq Al-Bitar, the Public Prosecutor of Cassation, Ghassan Oweidat, and 3 other judges, were included on the list of defendants for questioning next month.
