Patriarch Mar Ignatius Youssef III Younan, Patriarch of the Syriac Catholics of Antioch, participated in the concluding prayer of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity, which was hosted by Cardinal Mar Beshara Boutros Al Rahi, Maronite Patriarch of Antioch and All the East, in the Church of the Maronite Patriarchal Chair in Bkerke.

Also participating in the prayer were His Holiness and Beatitude Patriarchs Mor Ignatius Aphrem II, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East and Supreme Head of the Syriac Orthodox Church worldwide, Youssef Al-Absi, Patriarch of Antioch and All the East of the Melkite Greek Catholics, Raphael Bedros, the 21st Minassian Catholicos, Patriarch of Cilicia for the Armenians, and Aram I Keshishian Catholicos. Cilicia for the Orthodox Armenians, and a number of eminent metropolitans, priests, priests, monks, nuns and believers from the various churches in Lebanon.

His Beatitude was accompanied by Mar Matthias Charles Murad, Vicar General of the Patriarchal Archdiocese of Beirut, Monsignor Habib Murad, General Patriarchal Curator and Secretary of the Patriarchate, and Father Karim Kalash, Assistant Secretary of the Patriarchate.

Ceremony details

First, Bishop Michel Moawad gave a welcoming speech on behalf of the Episcopal Committee for Ecumenical Relations in the Council of Catholic Patriarchs and Bishops in Lebanon, which called for reviving this occasion and supervised the organization of the Rite.

During the ritual, joint prayers were recited centered on the verse that was taken as the motto for this year’s Week of Prayer for Christian Unity: “Learn goodness and seek justice” (Isaiah 1:17).

The ritual also included hymns performed by choirs from various churches, including the choir of Our Lady of the Annunciation Cathedral in Beirut, representing our Syriac Catholic Church.

His Beatitude Patriarch Mar Beshara Boutros Al-Rahi delivered a sermon in which he addressed the importance of the common witness performed by the churches, through preaching, liturgy and service, raising a prayer for the completion of the visible unity among Christians.
