The “Renewal” bloc met at its headquarters in Sin El Fil and issued the following statement:
The “Renewal” bloc regrets the persistent obstruction practiced by the opposition deputies in the presidential elections. This obstruction, whose disastrous results have become beyond Lebanon’s ability to bear, given that it prevents the reconfiguration of power and the organization of institutions, which constitutes the only way to rescue and stop the suffering and pain of the Lebanese. Instead, the opposing forces are diligently attempting to overthrow the constitution, striking the last remaining democratic practice in Lebanon, and the last remaining ability of the Lebanese economy, and with it the Lebanese, to stand firm, which bears full responsibility for these forces of obstruction, for the imminent social explosion that may occur. Its negative repercussions cannot be counted.
In this context, we affirm the appreciation of the parliamentary steps seeking to stop the series of obstruction, specifically the sit-in of colleagues Najat Saliba and Melhem Khalaf, with whom we sympathized in it. It is only in parallel with an understanding that has become necessary between all the sovereign, reform and change-making parliamentary components, on a candidate and a presidential action strategy that leads to the election of a sovereign, reformist and capable president, with whom the path of restoring the state to its sovereignty and institutions, achieving justice and accountability begins, as well as the path of economic, social and financial rescue, and the restoration of Lebanon. For its role, presence and position in the Arab world and in the world.-
On the other hand, the “Renewed” bloc affirms support for the path of accountability and justice in the Beirut port bombing crime, and considers that the obstruction of the investigation over a period of two and a half years is by attempting to handcuff the hands of the judicial investigator, Tariq Al-Bitar, with procedures that violate the law, or by fabricating sedition, as happened in Tayouneh, or by direct threat. As happened in the visit of a party official to the Palace of Justice as well, and the distortion media campaigns, all of which aim to obscure the truth and obstruct justice, and almost lead today to unprecedented judicial chaos and to the bombing of institutions.--
The “Renewed” bloc reaffirms the continuation of the struggle alongside the families of the victims of the port bombing until all interference is lifted from the judiciary, the fortification of its independence, the clarity of the truth, and the achievement of justice and the accountability of those responsible for the crime of the age.
On the anniversary of the martyrdom of Major Wissam Eid and his associate, Osama Mereb, the bloc extends its condolences to the families of the two martyrs, who fell in the face of the series of assassinations, and praises the sacrifice of Major Eid, who had the upper hand in helping the International Tribunal reach the truth in the assassination of martyr Prime Minister Rafik Hariri.
