Borussia Dortmund snatched a thrilling 4-3 victory at home to Augsburg in the German Football League, in a match that saw striker Sebastien Haller participate as a substitute after being treated for testicular cancer on Sunday.

Augsburg equalized three times before Giovanni Reina sealed the home side’s victory 12 minutes from time to give Dortmund victory in the return of the competition after a two-month hiatus due to the World Cup.

Dortmund, who included Haller in the second half for the first time after undergoing two surgeries for testicular cancer since July, is sixth with 28 points.

Dortmund opened the scoring in the 29th minute, when Judd Bellingham hit a ball from among three defenders in the goal.

The goal paved the way for an exciting 15 minutes before the break, when Augsburg equalized through Arne Meyer after a mistake by defender Niko Schloterbeek.

But the Dortmund defender made up for his mistake two minutes later as he restored his team’s lead with a header after a free kick.

Dortmund coach Edin Terzic involved striker Haller, who came from the Ivory Coast, and Jimmy Bayno-Gitens, to enhance his team’s attack, so that the team succeeded in regaining progress when the English player scored the third goal with a powerful shot from outside the penalty area in the 75th minute.

But Dortmund’s poor defense failed again, as substitute David Colina equalized by following Kelvin Yeboah’s rebound off the post in the 77th minute.

In the next minute, Reina restored Dortmund’s lead with a shot from inside the penalty area.

Bayern Munich, the defending champions, who drew 1-1 with hosts Razen Pal Sport Leipzig on Friday, lead the competition with 35 points.
