World Cup bronze medalists Croatia have drawn hosts the Netherlands in the semi-finals of the UEFA Nations League next June, while Italy and Spain will be rekindled in the other semi-final match.
The four countries finished top of their groups in the first level of the tournament last year and will compete in a mini-tournament in the middle of the year to determine the winner of the 2022-2023 season title.
The lottery was drawn today, Wednesday, at the headquarters of the European Union (UEFA) in Switzerland. The Netherlands will host rivals Croatia, who reached the semi-finals in the World Cup in Qatar, in Rotterdam on June 14, while Italy will meet Spain in Enschede the next day.
The two winners will advance to the final in Rotterdam on June 18th, while the match for third place will take place on the same day in Enschede.
Spain was France’s runner-up in the last edition of 2021, after first defeating host Italy in the semi-finals with a double by Ferran Torres in a 2-1 win in Milan.
Italy and the Netherlands also make their second appearances in this final stage of the tournament while it will be the first time for Croatia.
The Italians finished third in 2021, while the Netherlands were runners-up in the first edition in Portugal 2019.
The Nations League is held every two years and all European countries compete in it, which is divided into 4 levels.
This tournament effectively replaced the friendly matches that were previously held on the dates listed on the international match schedule.
The following is the draw that was drawn in Nyon, Switzerland, on Wednesday.
Semi-finals
June 14: Netherlands vs Croatia in Rotterdam
June 15: Spain vs Italy in Enschede
Third place match
June 18 in Enschede
Final
June 18 in Rotterdam
