The doctors of the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery at King Abdullah Medical City in Makkah Al-Mukarramah on Sunday, December 22nd, were able to complete a successful 3-hour surgical intervention using the 3D surgical planning technique to repair deformities and fractures in the forehead bone of a patient who had an old traffic accident.

The Health Assembly in Makkah Al-Mukarramah said that the doctors were able to end the suffering of a young man in the second decade of life, who was involved in a traffic accident seven years ago, which led to a fracture in the forehead bone and the upper right eye socket.

After conducting clinical, laboratory and radiological examinations, it was found that there was a double fracture in the forehead bone and the upper right eye socket, which was not fixed in time due to the difficulty of the case. This necessitated that the patient undergo a qualitative restoration process, in which a high-resolution printed formula was used.

The idea of the new technology is to take CT scan images, convert them into three-dimensional stereotypes, and then print and install them in the affected area of the patient so that the operation can be performed on the printed stereotype before performing it on the patient.

The procedure used in previous cases required the withdrawal of a bone graft from the patient’s body, which led to multiple complications, in addition to increasing the duration of the operation to 6 hours, with a recovery period of several weeks.

After the operation, the patient was transferred to the inpatient department to complete the recovery stages with the nursing teams, and he is in good health.
