Today, Tuesday, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates in the Palestinian Authority called for international intervention to stop Israel’s measures that impede or prevent foreigners or solidarity activists from entering the West Bank.
In a press release, the ministry welcomed the report issued by Human Rights Watch on the new Israeli occupation measures regarding the entry of foreigners into the West Bank and its disastrous consequences for the conditions of the Palestinians.
The ministry considered that these measures represent “an official Israeli policy based on the concept of severance and isolation, with regard to severing the relationship between the West Bank and Gaza, isolating them from each other, and isolating Palestinian residential areas.”
She pointed out that the Israeli occupation applied these procedures by refusing to enter dozens of fact-finding committees into the occupied Palestinian territories, which were formed by several UN resolutions in order to find out the reality of the situation in Palestine.--
The Palestinian Foreign Ministry called on the states, the competent UN bodies and the Human Rights Council to pay attention to these measures and their risks at the political, legal and humanitarian levels, and to follow them up with the occupation government in order to stop them.-
Human Rights Watch said in a report issued yesterday that the new Israeli instructions regarding the entry of foreigners into the West Bank threaten to exacerbate the separation of Palestinians from their loved ones and from global civil society.
The organization added: “The Israeli instructions, which entered into force in October 2022, and were amended in December 2022, specify detailed procedures for the entry and residence of foreigners into the West Bank, a process that differs from the procedures for entering Israel.”
According to the human rights organization, the occupation authorities have always made it difficult for foreigners to teach, study, volunteer, work, or live in the West Bank.
She stated that the new instructions legalize and tighten restrictions imposed for a long time, and may make it more difficult for Palestinians in the West Bank, who already face severe restrictions on movement imposed by the Israeli occupation forces.
