Displaced Syrians in a camp in northern Syria said that they have not seen a drop of oil for a whole year, amidst the huge living difficulties they face on a daily basis.
Al-Jazeera Mubasher monitored the suffering of the displaced in the Ebad al-Rahman camp in the city of Maarat Misrin, northern Syria, as part of the “12 severe winters” campaign.
One of the displaced women told Al-Jazeera Mubasher, “We have been displaced for 5 years and no organization has adopted us. This camp is deprived of bread, aid and water. We have not seen a drop of oil for a full year, as if we are not part of the world.”
She added, “Everything we buy, even water, we buy, and everything is very expensive, and we have nothing to sell or work to earn from to buy our needs, and we warm ourselves by setting fire to animal dung, because we cannot buy firewood.”
-And she continued, “A family of 4 or 5 people needs 6 bundles of bread every day. Where does it get that from? A father cannot even buy a chicken to make his children happy.”
--Sadly, another displaced woman, over 90 years old, expressed the desire of the displaced to return to their previous homes, and she said, “By God, I will crawl to him, I used to live in bliss, and I came here to hell.”
Another displaced person in the camp said, “The animals live a better life than our eve.”
He added, “Everything has an expiration date, except for our tents. Since we came here, it is still the same tent, and it has become worn out and in need of replacement.”
