Sixth-tier side Derville pulled off a stunning upset in the Scottish Cup with a 1-0 win over Premier League club Aberdeen, courtesy of the teaching goalkeeper.

Jordan Kirkpatrick scored the goal for the amateur league team in the 19th minute, before fellow goalkeeper Chris Trosdale shone.

Trosdale saved several chances in the second half from Ryan Duncan and Luis Lopez to give his team a victory in the fourth round.

Asked about his team’s celebrations, Trosdale replied: “I have a school day tomorrow, but I don’t think we’ll sleep tonight.”

Aberdeen won the title 7 times, and the shameful defeat comes nearly 40 years after winning the European Cup Winners’ Cup under coach Alex Ferguson at the expense of Real Madrid in 1983.

The loss will increase the pressure on Aberdeen coach Jim Godin, whose team has lost 7 of its last 9 matches and is fifth in the league.

Derfel will play against Falkirk, which belongs to the third division, in the next round.
