The Azerbaijani embassy in Amman issued a statement refuting the allegations and rumors made by the Armenian side regarding the Khankendi-Lachin road and the humanitarian cases on the Armenian side.
The embassy said that, based on the daily monitoring of the Khankandi-Lachin road, 644 means of transport of different categories moved back and forth without any hindrance during the period from December 12, 2022 – the day the peaceful protests began – until January 15, 2023;
562 of them belong to the Russian peacekeeping forces, 79 to the International Committee of the Red Cross, while 3 are owned by the local Armenian population;
An average of 30 means of transport carried out a daily movement in two directions over the period between 05-15 January 2023, where the large-capacity means of transport took over the majority, and were loaded with various kinds of goods and medicines on their way to Khankendi;
Here, it is necessary to emphasize that the number of means of transportation that follow a path towards Khankendi exceeds the number of those moving in the opposite direction, that is, towards Armenia, provided that the boats heading to Khankendi are always loaded.
She added, during the statement, that ICRC vehicles transport patients in the direction of Khankendi – Lachin, while its two trucks carried goods and medicines in the opposite direction (Armenia). The transports of the Russian peacekeeping forces delivered various types of commodities, including pasta, rice, flour, sugar and vegetables to the city of Khankendi.
The embassy indicated that the International Committee of the Red Cross has transported 11 times, to date, people suffering from various diseases in the direction of Khankendi – Lachin. In general, transit was provided to 32 people from this category, accompanied by their families.
The embassy indicated that the Azerbaijani side has repeatedly declared that no restrictions are imposed on human movement through the Lachin road, and therefore, the Armenian side and its illegal creation in the Azerbaijani lands impede the movement of the local Armenian population across the road with the aim of exploiting the scene. Thus, the responsibility for the possible repercussions resulting from this exploitation rests with Armenia, which has made its peaceful population hostage to ill-intentioned political targets and its illegitimate regime.
The embassy concluded its statement by saying that, in order to immediately address the humanitarian difficulties that may result from this Armenian exploitation, Azerbaijan has established close contact with the International Committee of the Red Cross and the Russian peacekeeping forces, whereby requests to transfer some needed products, especially the transfer of patients, are just being responded to.
