Yesterday, Monday, in Zagora, three partnership agreements related to the preservation of aquatic beds in the region were signed, on the sidelines of the meeting of the Administrative Council of the Water Basin Agency of Draa and Adnoun.

The first and second agreements were signed by the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the prefecture of the province of Zagora, the council of the Draa-Tafilalet region, the regional council of Zagora, as well as the water basin agencies of Kair-Ziz-Gris, Draa and Adnoun.

The matter relates to two partnership agreements relating to the protection of some soil groups in Zagora and its agricultural lands from flooding and the construction of artificial feeding thresholds for water butterflies in the Draa al-Wusta basin and the Muaidar basin in the region.

These agreements aim to protect the population and their property from floods on the one hand, and to contribute to raising the water reserve by achieving artificial feeding thresholds for water butterflies in the Draa Al-Wusta and Al-Maidar basins.

In the same context, a contract for the participatory management of the aquifer of Fayja (the framework contract) was signed between the Ministry of Equipment and Water, the Council of the Drâa-Tafilalet region, the Provincial Council of Zagora, and the Prefecture of the Province of Zagora, which aims at the integrated management of water by water users and to ensure the preservation of the water bed. And ensuring the provision of drinking water to the residents of the region, in the presence of the heads of the territorial communes of Zagora, Ternatah, Blida, Tamkrout, and Fazwata, and the heads of the water user associations in the Fayja region of the Ternatah commune and leadership.

On the occasion, the Minister of Equipment and Water, Nizar Baraka, said in a statement to the press that a partnership agreement was signed to extend the Draa-Oued Noun basin, by grafting the water bed, small dams and water sills, in order to graft the water bed in both the Draa basin and the Oued Noun basin, recalling the royal directives received. In the speech of His Majesty King Mohammed VI, on the occasion of the opening of the first parliamentary session of the second legislative year of the eleventh legislative term, on October 14, 2022.

His Majesty emphasized that water policy is a common affair, which requires continuous updating of sectoral strategies in light of the pressure on water resources and their future development.

He added, Mr. Baraka, that this agreement is a knot of interest for the Fayja region in the province of Zagora for the integrated management of water and ensuring the preservation of the water bed to supply the population, the farmers and the farmers with drinking water, and irrigation, with a group of partners and water user associations in the regions concerned.
