UNESCO Goodwill Ambassador and President of the Hariri Foundation for Sustainable Human Development, Mrs. Bahia Hariri, considered that “the wars, conflicts and crises that the world and our region are witnessing make us aspire again to good will to keep pace with the aspirations and will of peoples with science and knowledge and to live in safety and peace” and considered that “education is the original feature of life And when education stops, life stops.”
Hariri’s words came during her participation in the “Greening Education in Lebanon” symposium, organized by the UNESCO Regional Office in Beirut, as part of the activities of the UNESCO Regional Office for Education in the Arab Countries on the occasion of the “International Day of Education in Lebanon”, in cooperation with the National Commission for UNESCO in Lebanon and the Ministries of Education. Higher Education and the Environment, with the participation of the Caretaker Ministers of Education, Higher Education and Environment, Judge Abbas Al-Halabi and Dr. Nasser Yassin, the Director of UNESCO in Beirut Costanza Farina, the Director-General of Education Imad Al-Ashqar, the Head of the Educational Center for Research and Development Hiyam Ishaq, educational and environmental officials at UNESCO and activists in the educational and environmental field.
Hariri said, “We are pleased and honored to welcome UNESCO’s invitation to the green school in Lebanon, the green homeland whose children chose the cedar tree as a symbol of their national unity, and let the vegetables be fortified by the pure, white sky.. and let the people of Lebanon be among the first to believe in the message of UNESCO and its educational, cultural, and scientific role.. and the familiar.” Therefore, when talking about the headquarters of the Ministry of Education in the UNESCO region and in Green Lebanon, its great pioneers, as an affirmation of Lebanon’s green identity, did not stop at the cedar tree, which has roots in centuries, but rather wanted roses to be a standard of time, so the hour of roses was alongside its martyrs, so that time would be green in Green Lebanon .. “.
She added, “Lebanon is the homeland, whose generations were brought up to be at the beginning of their academic year on the first Sunday of December..the annual celebration of the Tree Feast, where they used to meet, chant, and define their belonging to their green Lebanon from Naqoura to the Great River..the green school that we meet today to make it a target Educationally, it is in the heart of every Lebanese, male and female, and at the origin of the formation of this entity.
And she continued, “We highly appreciate UNESCO’s call today to activate this global will in facing the challenges of the climate that threatens our large planet, which has become a small global village..the epidemic begins in the morning and spreads to all its parts in the evening..and the experience of the Corona epidemic at the level of the entire planet makes us renew Our confidence and belief in the global mission of UNESCO, which coincided with the establishment of the United Nations General Assembly to entrust it with the mission of culture, education and science on the basis that wars occur first in human minds and in human minds the fortresses of peace are built, which confirms the importance of renewing the UNESCO mission in protecting the planet from aggression against the climate and its purity .. “.
She said, “The wars, conflicts and crises that the world and our region are witnessing make us look again to good wills to keep pace with peoples’ aspirations and their desire for science and knowledge, to live in safety and peace, and to face climate challenges and all forms of forceful and destructive conflicts. Education is the original feature of life, and when education stops, life stops.. And that renewal, development, science, innovation, and discovery are the hallmarks of successive generations.. and the renewal of national and human life.. and that the development of global concepts and trends must be immediately transformed into educational curricula in line with the speed and development of means of communication.. and years ago when the Ministry of Education in Lebanon took a decision to Integration of development concepts into the educational process, at that time we did not find educational curricula that could be integrated into it. During this distinguished meeting, we call for the development of green curricula to integrate them into the green school in order to restore life and hope to Lebanon, the green homeland… and to the entire human planet..”.
