The US State Department confirmed today, Tuesday, that it supports and urges the Lebanese authorities to complete a prompt and transparent investigation into the Beirut port explosion.

“The United States has made it clear to the international community since the explosion that it is urging the Lebanese authorities to complete the investigation as soon as possible,” said US State Department spokesman Ned Price – according to the American (Al-Hurra) channel.

Price added – in statements – that “the victims of the port explosion deserve justice, and those responsible must be held accountable.”

The Beirut port explosion, which occurred in 2020, resulted in damage to many streets in the capital, killing more than 215 people, injuring more than 6,000, and leaving 300,000 people homeless.

Earlier, the investigative judge, Tariq Al-Bitar, in the Beirut Port explosion case, included the Public Prosecutor, Ghassan Oweidat, and 3 other judges, on the list of defendants for questioning next month, according to the “Sky News” news website.
