Epic Games bans Fortnite to those under the age of 18

The company (Epic Games), the developer of the famous Fortnite game, confirmed that version 13.40 of the game on Android and iOS will not be available to players under the age of 18.

Although Fortnite has been removed from the Apple App Store and Google Play, users who installed it before that date can still play it. The game has been stuck at version 13.40.

And (Epic Games) stated that players will not be able, as of January 30, to spend the currency of the game called (V-Bucks).

On Twitter, she said, “We want all our game releases to use the existing suite of Epic Online Services, including: parental controls, virtual purchases, and parental verification features.” She added, “We cannot update the app on these systems due to restrictions imposed by Google and Apple on Fortnite.”

And last December, (Epic Games) made changes that prevent children from spending money in the in-game Fortnite store, and from using voice chat without parental consent.

In the same month, the company agreed to pay a $520 million fine related to allegations from the US Federal Trade Commission (FTC) that Fortnite violated the Children’s Online Privacy Act, and also deceived users into making unintended purchases.

Although (Epic Games) has addressed these concerns through new updates, the game Fortnite on iOS and Android devices cannot receive these updates. As a result, blocking access to anyone under the age of 18 was the only option available to the company.

To address the FTC’s claim that Fortnite tricked players into making unintended purchases, the company is working to prevent V-Bucks from being spent.

It should be noted that most players will not likely be affected by the new restrictions that will be introduced within a few days, because there are ways to access the famous game without having to go through the App Store or Google Play.

For example, users of Apple devices can access the game via the GeForce Now game broadcast service from NVIDIA, and Android users can download the game from the official website of (Epic Games).
