The “long-term corona” greatly affects the workforce, as it prevents large numbers of people from returning to work while others continue to need medical care long after they return to their jobs, according to a new study conducted in the United States of America.

According to the American newspaper “The New York Times”, the study conducted by the New York State Insurance Fund, a government agency that specializes in workers’ insurance and compensation, analyzed medical reports related to corona that were submitted to the fund by patients who contracted the virus while they were working, between January 1 (January) 2020 and March 31, 2022, for the purpose of obtaining compensation.

The study found that nearly a third of these patients (3,139 people) had symptoms of “long-term corona,” and about 71 percent of them required continuous medical treatment or were unable to work at all for six months.

The researchers also found that after more than a year of infection with the Corona virus, 18 percent of long-term Corona patients had not returned to work, and more than three-quarters of them were under the age of 60.

The study team wrote: “The results highlight one of the reasons for the damage to the labor force and the increase in the number of unemployed people after the epidemic, a reason that has not received sufficient attention from governments and employers.”

The team added that these results mean that the “long-term corona” may cause a major economic crisis as a result of its impact on work and production.

It is noteworthy that among the most common symptoms of “long-term corona” are fatigue, shortness of breath, chest pain, and cognitive disorders, including “brain fog” and joint pain.

Dysfunction of some organs, such as the heart, lungs and brain mainly, has also been reported, even among those who did not develop noticeable symptoms immediately after the virus was transmitted to them.
