Kuwaiti writer and critic Dr. Nermin Al-Houti, her latest book, titled: “The Woman’s Image in Ismail Abdullah Theatre,” was launched at the Cairo International Book Fair earlier this week.

Al-Houti said, “Studying women’s issues in theater and how to present them is still a controversial topic, and it comes between constant push and pull in various countries of the world, adopting the slogan “Theatre for Women’s Support” or “Women’s Theatre.”

Regarding the reason for choosing the subject of the book, Al-Houti pointed out the lack of studies that pay attention to women in the theater, in addition to revealing the intensity of theatrical creativity of the Emirati writer Ismail Abdullah, who clearly addressed the status, image and issues of women within his creative texts, especially in the field of theater.

The book is about 325 pages, and it extends over three chapters that talk in some detail about the presence of women in the format of creative works, although their social status was affected by the traditional culture of the society in which they were brought up, as the social status of women was greatly affected by the social, political, economic and cultural conditions of society.
