Rania Shaalan died today, Sunday, after a struggle with cancer, which she had been suffering from for a long time.

The artist, Hamza Al-Aili, was the first to announce the news of Rania Shaalan’s death, through his Facebook account.

Hamza Al-Aili published pictures of Rania Shaalan, commenting: “My beautiful and kind friend, the kind artist Rania Shaalan, is in God’s grace.”

As Hamza wrote on the authority of Rania Shaalan: “May God have mercy on you and reward you for your patience with your illness with great good deeds and mercies, and grant you paradise, and grant patience to the family and your loved ones, dear .. God has survival and permanence.”

Who is Rania Shaalan?

Rania Shaalan is an Egyptian artist, born in 1970. She is one of the most prominent female voices in the alternative music arena. She graduated from the Faculty of Fine Arts, Department of Field Sculpture, in 1997.

Rania Shaalan began her artistic journey about 20 years ago, specifically in an international camp held in the United States, in which she performed a song by Sayed Darwish.

Rania Shaalan was also a sculptor and musician who takes music as a second hobby besides sculpture, and her first appearance was with the participation of musician Fathi Salama at the end of the nineties.

Rania Shaalan participated in many local and international exhibitions, including the first International Triennial Exhibition in Turkey in 1997, the Aswan Symposium exhibition in Egypt in 2003, and the General Exhibition in Egypt also in 2008, in addition to the Perspectives exhibition in the Ubuntu Gallery in Zamalek in 2016.
