French director Jean-Jacques Pinnex dies at 75


Died French director Jean-Jacques Pinnex, aged 75, announced Thursday to AFP, his brother Jean-Claude, as well as the late wife and daughter.

Benex died in his Parisian home, after a long struggle with illness and a career during which he gained fame thanks to his films “Diva” in 1981 and “2°37 Le Matin” 37°2 le matin in 1986.

“2°37 Le Matin” was nominated for nine César Awards for French cinema, as well as for the “Oscar” award for best foreign film, in which the audience discovered the French actress Beatrice Dale, who played the role of Petit.

However, the films that followed him did not achieve success, including “Roslyne et les lions”. In 2001, he returned after an absence of nine years with his movie “Mortel Transfer”, which failed commercially and critically, and incurred large debts on the director. This work was his last feature film, after which he focused on documentaries for the small screen through his production company, Cargo Film.

In 2016, Benicks chaired the jury of the 29th Tokyo Film Festival.
