Barcelona is second in Group E behind Bayern, and the match between them is scheduled to take place on Wednesday at the Allianz Arena.

“Bayern Munich will play Barcelona behind closed doors,” the Spanish club said.

He added, “The match will be played without fans in the stadium due to the significant increase in cases of corona infection in the German region of Bavaria in recent weeks.”

The English Premier League match against Red Bull Leipzig, next Tuesday, will also be played without fans, after the German state of Saxony announced a partial closure last month.

And the German government decided, on Thursday, to reduce the capacity of fans in league matches to 50 percent and a maximum of 15,000 fans, after it re-tightened restrictions in sports competitions with an increase in Covid-19 infections.

The German authorities fear the risks of a fourth wave of Covid-19 and put pressure on intensive care units, after it recorded yesterday, Thursday, more than 73,000 new cases of infection and the death of 388 people.
