British airline Virgin Atlantic Airways is in discussions with shareholders about the possibility of injecting funds worth 400 million pounds ($540 million) into the company, Sky News reported, citing informed sources.

A Sky News report stated that the amount of the potential financial increase has not yet been confirmed, and that the company’s founder and majority shareholder, Richard Branson, is expected to make a contribution as the prospect of the company’s shares on the stock exchange has become less likely. The network added that the decision will be announced by the end of the year.

A Virgin Atlantic spokesperson told Sky News the company does not comment on “speculation”.

The company was established in 1984, and the Virgin Group owns 51% of its shares, and Delta Air Lines, the rest, according to Bloomberg News.
