US natural gas contracts fell more than 11%

US natural gas futures fell more than 11% on Monday, paring gains in the previous session, as expectations of lower-than-normal heating demand over the next two weeks hit expectations. On the first day of trading, gas contracts for January delivery fell about 63 cents, or 11.45 percent, to settle at $4.854 per million British thermal units, which is the worst day for contracts to the nearest maturity since January 2019.

With gas prices around $30 per million BTU in Europe and $35 in Asia, compared to about $5 in the United States, traders say buyers around the world will continue to buy all the LNG the United States can produce.
