The new strain of the Corona virus is worrying, and it is the fifth since the outbreak of the epidemic

The World Health Organization classified the new strain of the Corona virus as worrying, explaining that it is “the fifth mutated since the virus appeared.” The mutant that appeared in South Africa was called ‘Omicron’.

This comes at a time when some countries have started stopping their flights to African countries and imposing travel restrictions, and this is what the South African Minister of Health considered “contrary to the standards set by the World Health Organization,” stressing, “We do not have any evidence so far that the new mutated virus is a virus.” Corona will lead to very serious symptoms. We are working with great transparency regarding the new mutation.”

And the WHO spokesman, Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, confirmed earlier today that the organization “needs several weeks to understand the new mutant of the Corona virus,” noting that the organization “does not recommend imposing travel restrictions due to the African corona mutator.”

Ghebreyesus stressed that “the African corona mutant is of concern,” explaining that “the WHO is holding a meeting in order to better understand the timetable for ongoing studies, and to determine whether this strain should be classified as a mutant of interest or a mutant of concern.”
