France: New measures to confront the fifth wave of the Corona outbreak

French Health Minister Olivier Veran revealed a set of measures taken by the authorities, the day after a meeting of the Defense Council headed by Emmanuel Macron, in order to confront the new fifth wave of the Corona virus that the country has been witnessing in recent days.

Ferran indicated that among these measures is the opening of the door to vaccination with a third booster dose against Corona for all 18-year-olds available from Saturday.

He ruled out re-imposing a quarantine or complete closure to prevent the spread of the virus, while announcing that the health certificate expires from December 15 for 65-year-olds if they do not receive a booster dose, and January 15 for 18-year-olds.

Ferran pointed out that “we can pass this wave without resorting to the most restrictive measures,” explaining that at this stage there will be no “early closure of businesses and no restrictions on movement.”

The French Minister of Health also announced the mandatory return of wearing masks in closed places, starting from Friday, including places where health permits are required (restaurants, shopping centers, entertainment venues, museums…).

France recorded more than 30,000 new cases of Covid-19 in 24 hours for the first time since August, with the infection spreading at an accelerating pace despite the imposition of new measures of social separation and a campaign to give stimulant doses.
