Israeli Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced the discovery of 5 cases of the new mutation in South Africa.
Today, Friday, he also announced the restriction of travel from countries in which the new Corona mutant appeared, calling for an increase in the vaccination rate to confront the new mutant.
“We are now on the brink of a state of emergency,” Bennett said, according to a statement issued by his office, before extending the ban he announced Thursday on entry to foreigners from seven African countries and travel to Israelis.
Under the broader restrictions, all African countries, with the exception of North African countries, have been added to Israel’s “red list” of high-risk countries.
Bennett, who met with Israeli health experts before the decision was announced, said that there are a few cases of the new strain that have been registered in Israel.
