Egypt qualifies for the World Cup qualifiers

Egypt qualified for the final stage of the African qualifiers for the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, after adjusting its two-goal deficit to a 2-2 draw with its host Angola yesterday in the fifth and penultimate round of the second stage qualifiers.
Egypt became the fourth qualified for the final stage, after Senegal, Morocco and Mali.
Egypt raised its tally to 11 points at the top of Group F, followed by Gabon with seven points, after beating Libya 1-0 earlier today.
Libya comes in third place with six points, followed by Angola in fourth place with four points.
Helder Costa put Angola ahead in the 26th minute with a powerful shot that hit the far right corner of Egypt’s goalkeeper Mohamed El Shennawy.
And M’bala doubled down the yield in favor of Angola in the 36th minute from a penalty kick.
Egypt midfielder Mohamed Elneny managed to reduce the difference in the first minute of stoppage time for the first half, after receiving a perfect cross from Mohamed Salah to hit Elneny in the left corner of the Angolan goalkeeper’s goal.
Defender Akram Tawfik equalized for Egypt in the 59th minute after receiving a pass from Salah on the border of the Angola penalty area, and Tawfik fired a powerful ball that changed its direction into the net.
“We succeeded in climbing half of the mountain, and we still need to climb the other half to reach the World Cup. My first goal is to qualify for the World Cup, and we have a lot of work to do to achieve that,” Egypt coach Carlos Queiroz said in televised statements after the match.
He added, “The first half was difficult because of the two goals, the humidity and the high temperature. Finally, we entered the atmosphere of the match, so we conceded two goals. The reaction of the Egyptian players was good in the second half, and we managed to control the midfield and scored two goals, and we were the closest to winning.”
Queiroz concluded, “We qualified for the last and decisive stage, and until March we have many things that we will strive to do in order to prepare ourselves for this stage. The Arab Cup matches and the African Cup of Nations are very important for the team.”
