The Saudi Military Industries Company, wholly owned by the Public Investment Fund PIF, announced the launch of a facility called “SAMI Composite Company Limited” to manufacture and produce composite parts for aircraft structural sub-assemblies, as a contribution to enhancing the Kingdom’s industrial capabilities in the field of aerospace industries. and defensive.
His Excellency the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Mr. Ahmed bin Aqil Al-Khatib, said: “Within the framework of our commitment to support the achievement of the objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030, our focus in the company is on developing Saudi capabilities in the field of aviation and defense, as the new facility for the manufacture of composite materials for aircraft represents a major step towards achieving this. It will play a key role in advancing the localization of our competencies through partnerships with world-leading OEMs, as well as enhancing our exports in the field of aviation and developing technical skills for Saudi nationals in the defense industries sector.”
For his part, the CEO of SAMI, Engineer Walid bin Abdul Majeed Abu Khaled, pointed out the importance of reaching this new stage as part of the company’s efforts to promote the development of pioneering local products and solutions. A pioneer in composite materials for aircraft, which will serve the military and other sectors in the Kingdom and the world, stressing that the facility will enhance the national economy by creating nearly 100 high-quality jobs, and will increase non-oil exports over the next few years.
SAMI will cooperate with one of the world’s leading OEMs, facilitating the transfer of technology and knowledge to enhance the local capabilities of the Saudi military industries sector, as the company works to enhance the Saudi aviation sector supply chains through the use of primary components of composite materials, consumables for production, and manufacturing tools .
It will also create 28 new jobs for highly skilled people in 2022, and the number is expected to rise to 90 jobs in the coming years.

The company is a significant achievement within the efforts of the Public Investment Fund through SAMI to localize the latest technologies, build knowledge, and forge strategic partnerships, in addition to its contribution to advancing technical innovation in the Saudi defense sector, as the new facility accelerates and enhances the Kingdom’s efforts to localize the production of aviation systems defense, and providing sustainable job opportunities that require high skills, in line with the main objectives of the Kingdom’s Vision 2030.
The facility has state-of-the-art systems and equipment that guarantees the highest production standards. It includes a large clean room of 2,268 square meters to ensure that the manufacturing environment complies with international OEM standards and allows for the assembly of materials involved in installation processes before they are processed. It also includes advanced precision installation equipment. Such as the autoclave with a length of 13 meters and a diameter of 6.9 meters, which is the largest of its kind in the Kingdom, advanced five-axis CNC machines, giant robotic units with a gantry structure that are subject to non-destructive testing by the NDI Gantry Robot, and (machines). Automated ATL tape laying and AFP fiber robotic assembly, in addition to reducing material cost and increasing aircraft fuel efficiency by using lightweight components, composites contribute to enhanced sustainability.
The establishment of “Sami Composite Materials Company Limited” supports the capabilities of the aviation sector in the Kingdom and enables it to manufacture and assemble complex aircraft structures that are characterized by great strength, reliable performance and lightweight characteristics, although the facility primarily aims to manufacture components for military and civil aircraft, fixed wing and helicopter However, it has the ability to serve other sectors, including transportation, construction, agriculture, and healthcare, taking into account the increasing demand for composite materials used in these sectors.
It should be noted that “Sami Composite Materials Co., Ltd.” is wholly owned by the Saudi Military Industries Company, and its headquarters are located in the southern region of King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, and extends over an area of ​​27,000 square meters, of which 10,000 square meters will be dedicated to production and support buildings. The facility can produce components and parts for aircraft composites, including fuselage and wing parts, exterior body panels, and moving surfaces.
