Cabinet approves organizational arrangements for the Saudi Red Sea Authority


The Council of Ministers, in its session held today, Tuesday, headed by the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Prime Minister – may God protect him – approved the organizational arrangements for the “Saudi Red Sea Authority”, and the authority aims to regulate the navigational activities of cruise ships and yachts intended for tourism purposes in The geographical scope of the Kingdom in the Red Sea, the protection of its marine environment and taking the necessary measures in the event of any breach of it, in addition to enabling the practice of marine tourism and recreational activities within the geographical scope of the Red Sea, in a manner that ensures optimal and sustainable use and contributes to raising its efficiency in partnership with all concerned authorities.

Ahmed Al-Khatib, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Authority, extended his thanks and appreciation to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and His Royal Highness Prince Muhammad bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense – may God preserve them – expressing his aspiration for the Authority to play a pivotal role In enabling navigation and marine activities along the coasts of the Kingdom on the Red Sea, and preserving the environment to be a mainstay in implementing the Kingdom’s ambitious plans, providing job opportunities for citizens, and attracting 100 million international and local visitors by 2030.

His Excellency stressed that the Red Sea coast occupies an important place in the development plan of the Authority, due to its strategic location between several continents, its extension of 1,760 km, and the huge opportunities it offers for sun and sea tourism and marine activities that depend on the pristine marine components, in addition to the ancient cultural components of the Red Sea. And the multiple opportunities to practice marine activities and sports that a wide segment of citizens and visitors from inside and outside the Kingdom look forward to enjoying, noting that in addition to the huge projects being worked on in the geographical scope of the Red Sea, the coast is rich in many promising opportunities for investors.

His Excellency the Minister of Tourism stressed the great importance of activating the role of the Saudi Red Sea Authority in pushing the march towards implementing these plans, as the authority will play a pivotal role in developing strategies, policies, plans and programs through joint work with all parties, within a general framework that ensures a balance between development requirements, and Preserving and sustaining the natural environment in the Red Sea.

The organizational arrangements of the “Saudi Red Sea Authority” stipulate that the authority coordinate with various relevant government agencies to find mechanisms to ensure that navigation and tourism activities in the Red Sea region are compatible with the policies of sustainability and protection of the marine environment, and the preservation of natural components in that important geographical area. In line with international best practices in this field, the authority is also committed to taking the necessary measures to prevent any violation of these policies, which specialists considered a step that increases the region’s attractiveness for marine and tourism activities and preserves its pristine environment.

It is noteworthy that the board of directors of the authority includes in its membership His Highness the Minister of Sports, His Highness the Minister of Culture and the Mayor of Jeddah, in addition to the membership of representatives from the Ministry of Interior represented by the Border Guard, the Ministry of Environment, Water and Agriculture, the Ministry of Tourism, the Ministry of Municipal and Rural Affairs and Housing, the Public Authority for Transport, and the Authority It also includes the CEO of NEOM and the CEO of the Red Sea Development Company, in addition to a number of specialists and experts, with the aim of joint work and close coordination between these authorities.

The Red Sea coast in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia is characterized by a stunning nature and a unique heritage and historical depth, as it includes three out of the six sites in the Kingdom included on the UNESCO World Heritage List, in addition to many unique sites prepared for various marine activities, such as diving, sailing and kayaking, in addition to The mega projects in NEOM and the projects of the Red Sea Development Company, which will play a critical role in developing the tourism sector in the Kingdom, and contribute to providing tens of thousands of job opportunities around the Red Sea coast.
