Backward compatibility program for Xbox is back

Microsoft discontinued the Xbox backward compatibility program two years ago. But he returned with a final update to the list.

To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the Xbox, Microsoft is now adding 76 new games to its backward compatibility library.

This represents a long list of add-ons, including the full Max Payne series, Skate 2, Dead or Alive Ultimate, and Star Wars Jedi Knight II.

AndShe said Xbox Compatibility Program Leader: “This latest and definitive addition to over 70 games to our backward compatibility program was made possible by the passion and feedback from the community.

“The continued demands of Xbox fans for certain games and improvements have encouraged the backward compatibility team to partner with original content creators to preserve thousands of games from over four generations of Xbox.”

Every Xbox or Xbox 360 original game that’s added supports Auto HDR across Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S platforms. Xbox original games include increased resolution as well.

Xbox One X and Xbox Series X owners are seeing a 4x increase in accuracy in the original console games, with a 3x increase in accuracy across Xbox Series S. And a 2x increase in accuracy across Xbox One S and Xbox One platforms.

FPS Boost is also enabled in 11 of the added games, doubling the original frame rate up to 60fps.

The FPS Boost feature also reaches 26 backwards compatible games. Including the entire Gears of War franchise, Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.

While Microsoft said two years ago that it does not plan to add additional original Xbox or Xbox 360 titles to the list. The surprising addition of more than 70 games is the last that we see new games that are compatible with the previous versions.

The Compatibility Program Leader explains: As we continue to focus on maintaining and improving the art form of games. We have maxed out our ability to bring new games to the list from the past. This is due to licensing, legal, and technical limitations.

The company is also rolling out an FPS Boost feature across 33 xCloud games. Including Fallout 4, Fallout 76 and The Evil within 2.
