Westley affirmed Washington’s commitment to a lasting political solution in Yemen


Acting US Ambassador to Yemen Cathy Westley announced today (Saturday) that Washington is giving the highest priority to regaining control of the diplomatic compound in Sanaa, and releasing local embassy employees who are being held by Houthi rebels.

Westley said in a message published by the account of the US embassy in Yemen on Twitter: “I directed my team to work in coordination with the US Special Envoy for Yemen and the international community to harness all diplomatic means available to us to achieve this end, and we will not stop our efforts until that is done.”

She stressed that the United States remains committed to a lasting political solution to the conflict in Yemen.

And the Houthi militia loyal to Iran stormed – during the month of November – the US embassy compound on Sheraton Street in the capital, Sanaa.

And local sources indicated that militia members stormed the embassy compound, and looted a large amount of equipment and supplies.
