The Uruguayan Football Association announced today, Friday, the dismissal of Oscar Tabarez, 74, as coach of the national team, after 15 years at the head of the technical staff of his country.

And the Uruguayan Football Association published an official statement, confirming the termination of the contract of Tabarez and his technical staff, stressing that the decision was difficult, but it is the best for the national team.

The decision to dismiss Tabarez came due to the negative results of the Uruguayan team in the South American qualifiers for the World Cup “Qatar 2022”, and the defeat in the last 4 matches, the last of which was a 3-0 defeat against Bolivia, to place the team in seventh place with 16 points, and is close to exiting the World Cup qualification race.

Tabarez coached the Uruguayan national team between 1988 and 1990, before taking the job again in March of 2006 until today.

Tabarez led his country to the last 3 World Cup tournaments, and the team under his leadership ranked fourth in the 2010 World Cup, and also won the Copa America in 2011.
