The visit of the US Deputy Secretary of State to Moscow is necessary and takes place at the right time

Russian presidential spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that contacts with US Deputy Secretary of State Victoria Nuland, who is currently on a visit to Moscow, are necessary and timely.

In response to a press question about the Kremlin’s assessment of the negotiations with Nuland, Peskov replied: “In the first place, of course, the results of these negotiations should be commented on by the Russian Foreign Ministry, as this ministry is the host, but of course we believe that these contacts are necessary and are taking place at the same time. It is important to talk and there is no need to complain about the fact that it is not immediately possible to reach any serious agreements. No way. Our bilateral relations are facing very big problems. They cannot be settled quickly, but these contacts are undoubtedly necessary.”

He explained that “there is no doubt that these contacts are implemented in the ‘spirit of Geneva’ and those agreements reached by the two presidents there. Of course, these contacts were not the first of their kind. You know that there have been several rounds of consultations on issues of strategic security and arms supervision. “There are consultations on cybersecurity. So everything is developing well, of course, compared to before Geneva, when there were no contacts. We are currently witnessing a positive development in our bilateral relations.”
