The exhibition will be held from the third to the 13th of next November, displaying millions of books by more than 1,566 Arab and foreign publishers, from 83 countries.
The exhibition brings together winners of the Nobel Prizes for Literature, the Booker, the makers of the most famous dramatic texts of the twentieth century, and the most prominent creators and artists in the world and the Arab region, over a period of 11 days.
The exhibition’s organizing committee said, in a press conference today, Wednesday, that the exhibition conveys the history of thousands of years of Spanish art and literature to the UAE and the Arab region, where it celebrates Spain, the guest of honor for its new session, hosting 41 Spanish writers, artists and creators in an open dialogue with the Arab cultural scene embodied in 25 Active and effective distributed over literature and arts of all kinds.
Ahmed bin Rakkad Al Ameri, Chairman of the Sharjah Book Authority, said: “The fortieth session of the fair constitutes a milestone through which we want the fair to be a driver for the publishing industry in the world, a catalyst for new readers of various interests, and a catalyst for shifts in publishers’ orientations that meet the needs of new readers, and in At the same time, it invites writers and researchers in the region and the world to expand their fields of interest, as the exhibition will continue to celebrate the cognitive and creative achievements of humanity.”
He added that the pavilions of the exhibition this year gathered 929 Arab publishing houses and 637 foreign publishing houses, displaying 110 thousand titles in various languages of the world, over an area of more than ten thousand meters, pointing out that Egypt tops the list of participations with 295 publishing houses, and the UAE with 250 houses, There are 138 publishing houses from the United Kingdom, 112 from Lebanon, 93 from Syria, and 76 from Jordan.
Among the most prominent foreign names participating is the writer Abdel Razzaq Garnah, who won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 2021, and whose participation in the exhibition is his first international presence after receiving the award. Chris Gardner, author of the book “The Road to Happiness”, from France, writer Yasmina Khadra; Amitav Ghosh, winner of two Lifetime Achievement Awards (Grammy Lifetime) and one (Dan David); Chetan Bhagat; Young inventor Gitanjali Rao, and other writers, creators and artists.
In its new session, the exhibition celebrates the Kuwaiti novelist Taleb Al-Rifai, the cultural personality of the exhibition, in appreciation of his creative career in writing novels, short stories, literary criticism, teaching the arts of creative writing, and his role in renewal in Gulf literature, conveying the aesthetics of the place and the depth of the culture of its people, and building a bridge of communication between the movement. Arab culture and its Western counterpart during more than three continuous decades.
The cultural program accompanying the exhibition this year will be attended by a group of literary, artistic and cultural personalities, in activities and dialogue sessions dealing with various topics. , writer and jewelry designer Azza Fahmy, Dr. Medhat Al-Adl, writer and historian Dr. Ali Al-Namla, Dr. Ahmed Emara, Jalal Barjas, poet Haider Mahmoud, and artist Ahmed Al Jasmi.
