Sao Paulo sack coach Crespo and appoint the club legend as his successor

Sao Paulo – AFP
The Brazilian club Sao Paulo announced the dismissal of its Argentine coach, former international striker Hernan Crespo, against the background of the team’s poor results, and appointed former Brazilian goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni as his successor.
The 46-year-old Crespo took over the technical duties of the team last February, three weeks after he led his humble compatriot FC Defensa e Justicia to win the Sudamericana competition.
Sao Paulo confirmed in a statement that the two parties had reached a “mutual agreement after negotiations between the coach and members of the Tricolori club.”
Crespo began his mission in the country of samba under the leadership of Sao Paulo to win the state title last May, ending 9 years of fasting for the club’s titles.
However, things took a different turn for the former AC Milan and Chelsea striker at the start of the Brazilian League this season, as Sao Paulo’s performance declined with its exit from the Copa Libertadores final price match, parallel to the Champions League.
In another statement, the club indicated that the club’s legend, Sini (48 years), signed a contract to coach the team until December 2022.
“Rogerio Ceni has already met the players and intends to lead the team in Thursday’s match against Ciara in Morumbi,” Sao Paulo said.
Unlike any goalkeeper throughout history, Sene scored 132 goals during his career, including 69 penalty kicks, 61 free kicks, and one goal after a cross.
At the start of his coaching career in 2016, he oversaw Sao Paulo, who sacked him after only seven months due to a series of poor results.
Sao Paulo suffered a severe blow after its veteran defender Dani Alves decided last September to leave the club following a dispute over unpaid money.
Sao Paulo fell into a draw in its last five matches, dropping its ranking to 13th in the Brazilian League, only 3 points ahead of the first relegated to the second division, 14 rounds before the end.
