Ronaldo’s wonderful history with the Ballon d’Or | Manchester United official website

It’s quite clear that Ronaldo is now a different player than the one who impressed Old Trafford as a teenager, but his scoring prowess hasn’t waned.

This year, he finished as the top scorer in Italy’s Serie A and the top scorer in the European Championship, and is also setting up an impressive run for the Premier League Golden Boot after a goal-packed start to his second spell at United.

His place among the 30-man shortlist is clearly well deserved, and although Robert Lewandowski, Messi, Karim Benzema and Jorginho have been nominated as great contenders, Ronaldo certainly cannot be ruled out.

If he scores a sixth victory, he will be the oldest player to win the trophy since the great Stanley Matthews, who was 41 when he was named Europe’s first player of the year in 1956!.
