Formula One world champion Max Verstappen has overtaken rival Lewis Hamilton to become a fan favorite in the championship in the latest poll published ahead of the US Grand Prix.
After polling 167,000 motorsport fans with an average age of 32 from 187 countries, the Red Bull driver was the most popular driver, while McLaren ranked first among the teams.
Monza, Spa-Francorchamps, Silverstone and Monaco were the most popular circuits with fans.
The survey was conducted under the auspices of Formula 1. Verstappen leads the world championship by six points from Hamilton, the Mercedes driver and seven times world champion, with six races remaining.
The 24-year-old Dutch driver is more popular among the 25-34 age groups around the world.
McLaren’s 21-year-old Lando Norris, who has yet to win a race, finished second overall in the poll but was the top choice of female fans.
Mercedes’ Hamilton came third but took first place in his home country of Britain and also among motorsport enthusiasts over the age of 45.
