NASA intends to conduct a test of the first system to protect the Earth from dangerous asteroids.
And NASA spokesman, Joshua Hendel, said that the US Space Agency plans to send a rocket carrying a special probe to an asteroid next November, which would collide at the end of September or early October 2022 with an asteroid to change its course.
He pointed out that the SpaceX “Falcon-9” rocket with the DART probe called (Double Asteroid Orbit Change Experiment) is expected to be launched into space on November 24 from the Vanderburgh Space Force Base in California.
It is also expected that the DART probe will separate from the rocket and head towards the double asteroid “Dedem – Dimorph”. The probe should hit the asteroid between September 26 and October 2, 2022.
It is noteworthy that the media had reported earlier that the asteroid 2020 XU6 with a diameter of 213 meters, whose dimensions can be compared to a stadium, will approach our planet next February to a distance of about 4 million kilometers.
