Former France and Manchester United star Patrice Evra said he was tired of watching Argentine Lionel Messi win the Ballon d’Or, which he won six times over his career.
Evra said in comments reported by the Spanish newspaper “Marca”: “In my opinion, he should win the Ballon d’Or this year, Kanté or Jorginho. I am tired of giving it to Messi.”
He added: “What did Messi crown this year? Well, the Copa America (with Argentina), but what did he achieve with Barcelona?”
The Ballon d’Or award ceremony for 2021 will be held on November 29 in the French capital, Paris.
Messi is considered one of the most prominent candidates to win the award for the seventh time in his career, along with the Chelsea midfielders, Italian Jorginho, French N’Golo Kante, Real Madrid striker, French Karim Benzema, Bayern Munich’s top scorer, Polish Robert Lewandowski, and, to a lesser extent, Manchester United star, Portuguese. Cristiano Ronaldo, who has previously won the prestigious award on five occasions.
