Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman has confirmed his confidence in his team’s ability to win the La Liga title this season.
“Gradually, we find that we have the team we want, and we are trying to find players who improve the team,” Koeman said (Saturday), in the press conference for Barcelona’s match against Valencia (Sunday) in the ninth round of the Spanish League.
He continued, “If we improve, we will be able to compete for the La Liga title,” knowing that Barcelona is currently ninth in the Spanish league standings with 12 points, with a game postponed.
When asked about the possibility of putting Ansu Fati in the starting lineup against Valencia, Koeman indicated that he would decide this matter on Sunday, noting: “His condition is improving day by day because he has been away for a long time, but he cannot fully recover in two weeks.”
And about Argentine Sergio Aguero, who may enter the Barcelona list for the first time after recovering from injury, Koeman said: “He has improved a lot recently, and he played a few minutes in Wednesday’s match (a training match), and his condition is good, but he lacks the rhythm of matches and more physical fitness.”
Koeman expressed his happiness with the renewal of the young player Pedri’s contract until 2026, and said, “We are happy because it is important to retain the best players, especially those who have a promising future ahead.”
On his continuation in Barcelona’s training, which was in doubt after the team’s defeat at the hands of Benfica in the Champions League before club president Joan Laporta confirmed his survival, Koeman indicated that he is trying to remain calm, and this is not easy.
