Biden and Macron discuss strengthening defense in Europe

The White House announced that US President Joe Biden and his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, discussed in phone conversations ways to strengthen defense in Europe. He stated that the two presidents reviewed the continuous efforts made by the teams of the two countries to support stability and security in the Sahel region and to enhance cooperation in the Indo-Pacific region.

They also discussed efforts to enable a stronger and more capable European defense while ensuring integration with NATO. President Biden, according to the White House, looks forward to meeting with President Macron in Rome later this month, to assess areas for cooperation and to advance the two countries’ common interests and shared values.

The White House said President Biden cited Vice President Harris’s November visit to Paris as a key opportunity to advance cooperation between the United States and France on a range of global challenges.
