Neymar, the Paris Saint-Germain striker, blew a big-caliber surprise about his future in his country, Brazil.
Neymar has announced that he is seriously considering retiring from international football with Brazil after the 2022 World Cup.
Is not optimistic
The Paris Saint-Germain star attributed the reason for his dangerous confession to the effects of football pressure on his body and mind, according to what Neymar himself said in one of the documentaries.
The Brazilian star’s efforts were not enough to win the sixth title for his country, after he led the Brazilian team’s attempts to win the title in the World Cup during the 2014 and 2018 editions, where the Seleção came out of the semi-finals and quarter-finals, respectively.
Neymar is less than a year away from the start of the next edition of the World Cup, in light of his lack of optimism about extending his international career until the 2026 World Cup, which will be held in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
“I see that the upcoming World Cup is my last,” Neymar said during a documentary film on the Italian platform “DAZN”, called “Neymar..The Line Of Kings.”
“I don’t know if I will have the mental strength to deal with football anymore,” added the 29-year-old Brazilian.
The Paris Saint-Germain star indicated that he will do everything to appear well, to win with his country and achieve his biggest dream since he was young to win the World Cup.
Neymar’s World Cup Journey
Neymar participated for the first time in the World Cup with Brazil at home in 2014, where his star was shining in Barcelona, so that the “Seleção” qualified to win the most prominent tournament in the world in front of his fans.
According to Neymar’s plan and the Brazilian players, things went as they should in the early stages, as coach Luis Felipe Scolari’s team advanced to the final price with two victories and a draw in the group stage.
In the second round, the Brazilians overcame Chile’s obstacle on penalties, but facing Colombia in the quarter-finals was a nightmare for Neymar.
The striker sustained a fracture of the vertebrae after a violent intervention from Juan Zuniga, and while the Brazil team beat its neighbor, Neymar and Thiago Silva missed the semi-final match against Germany, which ended with a 7-1 victory for the Germans in a historic loss for the Brazilians.
After 4 years, Neymar faced a race against time to regain his fitness before the World Cup in Russia 2018, after an absence of 3 months due to a foot injury.
Neymar eventually managed to get into the Brazil squad, scoring two goals in the tournament, but he couldn’t find a way to get past Belgium, as Brazil fell 1-2 in the quarter-finals.
Do Neymar titles qualify him to win the World Cup?
Brazil is always one of the favorites to win the World Cup, and despite the long list of titles and awards that Neymar has won with Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain, his success in clubs has not been translated into the international arena.
Besides the Olympic gold medal he won at the 2016 Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Neymar’s only award with the national team came in 2013 when Brazil lifted the Confederations Cup.
A year later, Neymar carried the hopes of a country on his shoulders, as Brazil sought to achieve its first World Cup title since 2002, but his efforts failed in the 2014 and 2018 World Cups.
Despite Brazil winning the 2019 Copa America, the injury curse prevented Neymar from being in the tournament, and he lost with his country the final of the last edition of the competition at the hands of Argentina 0-1.
