Amr Diab, nicknamed “The Plateau”, is betting on two things, the first, his extreme intelligence in reading the audience’s code, and the second, his devotion to his different lyrical project.
It is not surprising or strange that the “plateau” has been at the top of the mountain of singing in the Arab world and Africa for 35 years.
The beginning of the dream
In the valiant city of Port Said, Amr Abdel Basset Abdelaziz Diab was born on October 11, 1961. He inherited the sweetness of the voice and the love of singing from his father, who worked in the Suez Canal Company, but he is good at singing and has a taste for music.
In his childhood, the talent of “the plateau” appeared, and his father was happy about this, so he encouraged him to go on this path, and took care of training him to sing.
In 1967, Port Said Radio hosted the little boy Amr Diab, and in this meeting, he sang the Egyptian national anthem, “My Country, My Country”, and he won the admiration of the audience.
Days passed and Diab entered the youth stage, joined the Higher Institute of Arabic Music in the Egyptian capital, Cairo in 1982, and did not wait until he finished studying, as he released his first lyrical album during the study, which bore the name “Ya Tariq” and overcame this experience speeding beginnings, so The album did not have any success.
Amr Diab did not despair, and decided to repeat the experiment in 1985, and released an album entitled “Sing from your heart”, and in the following year he released “Hala Hala”, then the album “Khalasin”.
These works did not achieve a breakthrough in the journey of the plateau, but they strongly contributed to its great spread.
In 1988, Amr Diab’s star glowed, as he released an album entitled “Mayal”, which achieved a very remarkable success, and this coincided with the spread of the idea of filming lyrical clips, and the plateau invested the idea and pictures of the song “Mayal”, so the audience in Egypt and the Arab world knew him.
After that, the plateau albums rolled, and he starred in the nineties with 6 albums, and they were varied in words and music form, and they are “We are returning, my love, and they blame me, memories, our age, our days.”
Despite the success of all these works, the 1996 album “Noor Al-Ain” marked a major turning point in the artistic plateau. Thanks to this work, he moved from the category of the Arab artist to the category of the world, after the song “Noor Al-Ain” achieved great success worldwide, It was echoed by the audience in America, India, Pakistan and Brazil, and the plateau won many awards from international festivals for this work, as well as the World Music Award in 1998.
In the period from 1999 to 2003, Amr Diab’s choices changed, and he began presenting different works from the beginnings period. He also presented more than one duet with international stars, most notably Algerian singer Cheb Khaled.
Among the most famous albums of this stage are “Oudoni, Qamarin, Tamli Ma’ak, Alam Alby”, and he became the highest-paid and best-selling singer in the Arab world from the ocean to the Gulf.
Al-Hadba has won many awards for these wonderful works, including the Music Award 7 times, 3 awards from the annual Arab festival, and several times the World Music Awards as the highest sales in the Middle East in 1998, 2002, 2007, 2014.
Cooperation with Rotana
Amr Diab separated from producer Mohsen Gaber and the “Alam Al Fan” company and contracted with “Rotana” company in 2003, and this separation caused a sensation, which prompted Mohsen Jaber to accuse Amr of rebellion against him despite his support for him in the beginning.
Al-Hadba cooperated with “Rotana” for 11 years, during which he presented a group of his finest albums, including: “Complete your words, Lili Nahari, and Yah”, and the latter achieved sales of 3 million copies.
The years of friendship and honey between “Rotana” and “Al-Hadba” did not last, and the separation took place after album No. 8 because he felt the company’s failure in advertising and promoting the album “Kamel Your Words”, so the divorce occurred and he decided to establish his own production company called “Nay”.
Through his own production company, Al-Hadba released several different albums that achieved great success, most notably the 2016 “Ahla wa Ahla” album, “Maadi Al-Nas” 2017, “Kol Hayati” 2018, “I change” 2019, and “Sahran” 2020.
He also released several singles, such as “Fakrink said, I love your eyes, I knew your value afterwards, Cairo, Al-Farha Al-Laila”, and due to the success of his works, his songs were translated into several languages such as English, Spanish, French, Russian and Hindi.
Cinema on the plateau journey
Like all singing stars, Amr Diab went through an acting experience, and the beginning was in 1988, when he embodied the role of the son of the artist Salah Al-Saadani in the series “Nabe` Al-Nahr”, after which he participated in a dramatic evening by director Alawia Zaki under the name “Mish Maqoul .. High School”, and presented During which he played the role of a high school student, and presented a song about schistosomiasis, after which he participated in the series “Sorry, there is no other solution”.
After that, Al-Hadba moved to the cinema screen and presented 4 films, “The Two Prisoners” in front of Ilham Shaheen and Samah Anwar, and in the film he embodied the role of a drummer, and participated in his true personality in the movie “The Orcs” in front of Madiha Kamel.
Later, he directed the movie “Ice Cream in Glim” with Simon and Ashraf Abdel-Baqi, and he also stood next to Yousra and Omar Sharif in the movie “Laughter, Play, Find and Love”.
In October 2017, Amr Diab announced the contract for a new film project that will bring him back to acting, written by Tamer Habib, directed by Tarek El-Erian, produced by Tamer Morsi, and co-starring Dina El-Sherbiny, and the work was scheduled to be released in theaters in the summer of 2018, but the project It hasn’t come out yet.
The great star Amr Diab is credited with his ability to renew and maintain his stardom. During his stardom, many lyrical forms appeared, including “festival songs”, but he was not affected, and he still sings solo, as if a lofty plateau against earthquakes, where time stands.
