Alec Baldwin breaks his silence and makes his first statement about his film director with a weapon projectile he carries

(CNN) — Alec Baldwin made his first public statement since the fatal shooting on the set of his new movie Thursday.

Baldwin wrote on Twitter on Friday: “There are no words to express my shock and sadness at the tragic accident that took the life of our much admired wife, mother and colleague Helena Hutchins. I am fully cooperating with the police investigation to address how this tragedy occurred and am in contact with her husband, and to provide support For him and his family. My heart is broken for her husband, her son, and everyone who knew and loved Halina.”

The actor was in New Mexico filming his western movie “Rust,” which he is starring and producing. Police say he fired a projectile from a ‘Khelby’ pistol (no live ammunition) carried by the 68-year-old actor, killing the film’s 42-year-old director of photography, Halina Hutchins.

Film director Joel Sousa (48 years old) was also injured in the accident.

A statement issued by law enforcement authorities said that, according to investigators, it appears that the filmed scene involved the use of a firearm.

This type of accident happened before during the filming of “The Crow” in 1993, actor Brandon Lee, son of Bruce Lee, was killed by a bullet from a pistol that was supposed to contain only blanks.

Even blanks can be deadly if fired at very close range.
