Research has reported that there are ways in which blood sugar levels can be lowered by making healthy dietary decisions.
According to “Russia Today”, evidence indicates that some nutrients have blood sugar lowering properties, the most important of which is cranberries, or as it is also known as blueberries. Research shows that cranberry is a common herbal remedy used to lower blood sugar levels in people with type 2 diabetes.
One study reported that bilberry extract (the equivalent of 50g of fresh berries) reduced blood sugar levels in adults with type 2 diabetes more effectively than a placebo.
Experts believe that the berries prevent the disruption and absorption of carbohydrates in the intestine, similar to some anti-glycemic drugs. Carbohydrates can cause a spike in blood sugar because they break down into glucose relatively quickly.
