Use of an asthma inhaler

The Ministry of Health has clarified the correct mechanism and method for using an asthma inhaler (suppressive) for children, by following the following steps:

1- Ensure that the funnel is secure and installed correctly according to the directions on the package.

2- Shake the sprayer several times before removing the cap.

3- Place the spray nozzle at the end of the funnel designated for this.

4- Place the mask on the child’s face so that it covers the mouth and nose area.

5- Place your index finger on the spray can and your thumb under the funnel it is attached to.

6- Ask the child to exhale air from his lungs.

7- Press the spray bottle once.

8- Let the child take a deep inhale at least 6 times.

9 – If another dose is needed, repeat the process after 30 seconds.

The General Directorate of Health Affairs in Makkah Al-Mukarramah region urged the child to be encouraged to rinse his mouth with water after he finished using the asthma inhaler.

Factors leading to an asthma attack

Hormonal changes such as the menstrual cycle in some women.

Gastroesophageal reflux disease.

The Ministry of Health explained that asthma is a chronic disease that affects the air passages of the lungs, and is caused by inflammation and narrowing of the respiratory passages; This blocks the flow of air into the airways.

The Ministry indicated that the disease leads to repeated episodes of shortness of breath with wheezing in the chest (wheezing in the chest) accompanied by coughing and phlegm after exposure to inhalation of substances that provoke allergic reactions (allergic) or irritation of the respiratory system, and these attacks vary in severity and frequency from one person to another. It is one of the most common diseases among children.

Asthma control guidelines

Prevention of internal and external allergens.

– Joint work between the doctor and the patient, and the development of a complete treatment program that includes drug treatment, basic examinations and regular follow-up appointments.

You must have a medical file in the hospital and health center.

– Cooperation between the follow-up family doctor in the health center and the treating physician in the hospital (referral system).

Carry a follow-up card with you that records all medications with you.

Do not dispense medicines on your own or buy them from a pharmacy without consulting a doctor.

Do not use medicines that are dispensed to others.

Maintain general health and fitness by eating healthy food and exercising.

Quit smoking, refrain from sitting with smokers, and avoid the factors that trigger an asthma attack.
