4 teams from the Western region qualified for the quarter-finals of the AFC Champions League, which are Al Hilal and Al Nasr from Saudi Arabia, Al Wahda of the United Arab Emirates, and Persepolis of Iran.
Al Hilal qualified for the quarter-finals after defeating Esteghlal Tehran 2-0, while Al-Nassr overcame the Iranian Tractor Tabriz with a single goal.
Al Wahda qualified for the quarter-finals after overcoming the obstacle of its compatriot Sharjah on penalties, after the end of the original and extra time with a 1-1 draw, while Persepolis defeated Istiklal Dushanbe of Tajikistan 1-0.
From the East, Japan’s Nagoya Grampus qualified after beating South Korea’s Daegu 4-2, and South Korea’s Ulsan Hyundai by beating Japan’s Kawasaki Frontale on penalties, after a goalless draw over the course of the match.
It is expected that the last two cards will be decided in the quarter-finals, Wednesday, through the matches of Jeonbuk Hyundai Motors of South Korea against Bangkok Glass Pathom United of Thailand, and Cerezo Osaka of Japan against Pohang Steelers of South Korea.
It is noteworthy that the draw for the 2021 AFC Champions League will be held next Friday, 17 September.
